The Blue Lotus
The Blue Lotus Foundation was set up in 2001 by Genie Poretzky-Lee and Jay Ramsay (1959-2019). The Foundation offers a beautiful, still and sacred space for cultural and artistic events in Central London. At this time of Covid-19 lockdown, and to support artists who are struggling, The Blue Lotus Foundation is currently exploring options to develop on-line strategies to run cultural residencies, a gallery space, and a forum to share artwork, poetry, storytelling and research.
The name of our space, The Blue Lotus Foundation comes from Nymphaea Caerulea or the Blue Water Lily, a symbol of creation and rebirth. It blooms once a year for only 3 days. The plant has been associated with the Ra, the Egyptian sun god, the bringer of light and embodiment of the “perfection of wisdom.” The exotic flower, a natural sedative also has psychoactive effects. It has been used by the ancient Egyptians for thousands of years as part of religious ceremonies to reach higher levels of consciousness and connect to the Divine.
